Tragedy strikes Kottayam hospital building collapse

A section of the Government Medical College Hospital in Kottayam collapsed on Thursday morning, leading to the death of Bindu and injuring her 11-year-old daughter Aleena and a staff member.
The accident happened in an old bathroom block near Ward 14 that had already been marked unsafe and was set to be demolished.

Woman trapped under debris for 2 hours

Bindu was trapped under debris for over two hours before being found. Aleena and the staffer escaped with minor injuries.
The incident sparked protests over rescue delays, with opposition parties criticizing the government's response and calling for accountability.
Authorities have now ordered safety checks on other old buildings at the hospital, while investigations continue and affected wards remain closed.
