Tragedy strikes religious event in Gujarat

India

A major mishap struck the Ramapir Mahotsav in Porbandar, Gujarat, when a 50-foot pole suddenly collapsed during the final ceremony. Sadly, volunteer Vanraj Navghan Goraniya lost his life and at least two others were injured. The event had drawn a crowd of about 10,000 people and was immediately stopped after the accident.

Investigation underway to determine cause of accident

Organizers had brought in over 170 police officers and set up barricades to keep things safe—especially after recent stampede concerns elsewhere. Despite these efforts, a snapped rope caused the pole to fall. Police have filed an accidental death report and are now investigating if any negligence was involved; further action will depend on what they find.
