Teen sisters gang-raped in Jharkhand; accused still at large
Two teen-aged sisters were gang-raped by three men in Jharkhand's Palamau district on Tuesday. Though one of the victims has identified two accused, no arrests have been made so far. It's the second instance of reported rape of a minor in Jharkhand in a week. A constable and his friend were booked for raping a three-year-old girl in the state's Barta village on Saturday.
The girls live in a rented house in the same area as the accused men. On Saturday, they were forcefully taken to a nearby house and raped. The accused trio reportedly filmed the incident and threatened to circulate the video if the victims made the incident public. The condition of one of the sisters is critical. She is admitted at a local hospital.
Jharkhand is getting increasingly infamous for incidents of rape and mass violence. Three cases of mob violence in Jharkhand made national headlines in just the last week of June. Among them was the lynching of beef trader Asgar Ali by gaurakshaks near Bazartand area in Ramgarh district. A 25-year-old rape and murder accused was also publicly beaten to death soon after.
