Uncle sentenced to life for rape, murder of niece in UP
A Mainpuri court in Uttar Pradesh has sentenced a man to life in prison for the rape and murder of his 10-year-old niece.
Back in March 2020, the girl was playing outside her home when her maternal uncle lured her to a nearby school, assaulted her, and took her life.
Her body was found in bushes the next morning after villagers saw her last with him.
Arrest after the crime
After the crime, the uncle tried to escape but was arrested following an FIR filed by the girl's father.
The post-mortem confirmed rape and strangulation.
On June 26, 2025, Special Judge Chetna Chauhan handed down a life sentence and an ₹85,000 fine under charges including those from the POCSO Act—bringing closure to five years of determined efforts by both family and police.
