Unnao rape survivor protests Sengar's bail at India Gate

India

The Unnao rape survivor, along with her mother and activist Yogitha Bhayana, held a protest at India Gate in Delhi after the Delhi High Court suspended the life sentence of former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in her 2017 rape case.
Police reportedly removed them from the site.

What's happening with Sengar's case now

Sengar's life sentence was put on hold while he appeals his conviction, and his 10-year sentence for the custodial death of the survivor's father is not stayed; he remains in custody as bail/suspension in that case is still pending.
The court set strict bail conditions: he must pay a ₹15 lakh bond, check in weekly with police, stay away from the survivor's home, and avoid any contact or threats toward her or her mother.
If he breaks these rules, his bail could be canceled. Despite this suspension, Sengar remains in custody due to another pending appeal.

Survivor's family fears and next steps

The survivor's family says they feel unsafe and believe political pressure before the upcoming UP elections played a role in Sengar's release.
They plan to challenge the High Court order in the Supreme Court.
The family has faced repeated trauma—her uncle was murdered by Sengar's aides and her father died after being beaten in police custody.
