
UP: 7 killed, over dozen injured in separate road accidents
What's the story
At least seven people were killed and over a dozen were injured in separate road accidents across Uttar Pradesh. The first incident took place in Bareilly, where three people died and 10 others were injured after a van collided head-on with a bus. The accident occurred near Barheypura village on Bareilly-Bisalpur Road around 1:30am on Saturday.

Victims returning home for Diwali celebrations
The deceased in the Bareilly accident were identified as Rakesh (35), Gaurav (19), and Jitendra (20). The victims were reportedly returning home for Diwali celebrations. Police and fire brigade officials launched a late-night rescue operation using hydraulic cutters to extricate passengers trapped in the mangled van. Preliminary investigations suggest that speeding and an overtaking maneuver led to this tragic incident. Four of those injured are said to be in critical condition.

Youths killed in Amethi accident
In Amethi, Deepak Kumar (20) and Devendra Kumar (22) were killed when a speeding truck hit their motorcycle on the Lucknow-Varanasi Highway. The truck involved in the accident has been seized, and both bodies have been sent for postmortem examination. In Etah, two separate motorcycle accidents claimed two lives on Friday night. The first incident near Bahgo village saw Shyamveer (70) die after colliding with another motorcycle while his grandson Himanshu was injured along with two others.

In the second incident in Etah, Satyam (16) died after his motorcycle collided with another vehicle while he was on his way to a petrol pump late at night. Police have registered cases in both incidents and sent the bodies for postmortem examination. These accidents highlight the growing concern of road safety in Uttar Pradesh, especially as festive seasons see an increase in traffic volume.
