Uttarakhand landslide after monsoon leaves 80 villages cut off
Heavy monsoon rains triggered a huge landslide in Uttarakhand's Kedar Valley, blocking the Timli-Badma motor road and leaving 80 villages suddenly cut off on Thursday.
Locals are now struggling to reach basics like health care and schools, while officials were told to maintain the highest level of preparedness and state agencies were directed to remain on high alert.
Alaknanda and Mandakini reach danger levels
The nonstop rain has pushed the Alaknanda to the danger level and the Mandakini river just above danger levels, so authorities have warned people living near the banks to be ready for evacuation.
The India Meteorological Department has also issued orange and yellow alerts for more heavy rain ahead, with the chief minister urging all teams to stay alert as things could get worse in the coming days.
