Villagers in Maharashtra wear spiked collars to stay safe from leopards

India

In Pimperkhed, Maharashtra, villagers are taking some creative steps to protect themselves from a sudden spike in leopard attacks.
People now wear nail-studded collars while working in the fields and have put up iron grills and electric fences around their homes.
With leopard sightings becoming almost a daily thing, even simple tasks like farming or feeding cattle feel risky.

Daily life and routines turned upside down

The threat has changed how everyone lives—farmers now work in groups for safety, and school timings are being reconsidered.
Vitthal Rangnath Jadhav shared that his own mother was attacked recently, saying the situation is scary for families.
Since October, several lives have been lost to these attacks across nearby areas, leaving communities anxious and asking for urgent help from authorities.
