Virar: Man arrested after old assault video resurfaces
A 45-year-old deaf-mute man, Mahesh Ramesh Pawar from Virar, was arrested for allegedly raping several minor girls.
The case broke open when a 22-year-old woman found a video of her own 2009 assault being shared on WhatsApp and reported it to police recently.
Officers believe Pawar may have targeted eight to 10 girls in total.
How the case unfolded
Police say Pawar would drug his victims with sedatives in soft drinks, then sexually assault them while they were unconscious and record videos of the abuse.
After the recent complaint, Kurar police quickly tracked him down and seized his phone, which held multiple videos involving minors—including one who was also deaf and mute.
He's been booked under POCSO and IT Act charges, and Vakola Police are now investigating further.
A police officer from Vakola police station shared that they're working to identify more victims and anyone who received these videos.
