VIT Bhopal student's death leads to campus unrest and probe

India

After first-year student Neha Sahukar (19) died on November 24—her father blaming poor hostel food and hygiene—VIT Bhopal's campus erupted.
The tragedy was followed by a jaundice outbreak, with dozens falling sick, and thousands of students protesting unsafe water and food.

Campus turns chaotic; authorities step in

Protests escalated on November 25, turning violent as vehicles were set on fire and property damaged.
The university shut down until December 8, postponing exams as thousands left hostels.
Responding to the crisis, Madhya Pradesh's Chief Minister ordered an investigation into food and water quality.
Police have filed cases against both hostel staff for alleged assault on students and against unidentified students for rioting.
Food and water samples are now being tested as the probe continues.
