Divya Gehlot, the wife of Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot's grandson Devendra Gehlot, has accused her in-laws of mental and physical harassment over dowry demands. In a complaint filed with Ratlam Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar in Madhya Pradesh, Divya alleged that her husband threw her off their roof while drunk. She also claimed that her in-laws prevented her from seeing their four-year-old daughter.

Divya has accused her husband Devendra (33), father-in-law Jitendra (55), brother-in-law Vishal (25), and grandmother-in-law Anita Gehlot (60) of physically and mentally torturing her for years. She alleged they demanded a dowry of ₹50 lakh. Former MLA Jitendra reacted to the allegations, saying they "will present all the facts before the media."

Divya married Devendra on April 29, 2018, under the CM's Kanyadan Scheme. She alleged that several details, such as Devendra's alleged drug addiction and affairs, were concealed from her before marriage. In her complaint, she claimed the abuse worsened during her pregnancy in 2021. She claims she was often refused food, assaulted, and mentally tormented. Even after the birth of her daughter, the claimed abuse continued. Despite a settlement effort in 2019, Divya claims "nothing changed; things only got worse."

Divya alleges severe abuse and threats from husband
Divya recounted an incident on January 26 when her intoxicated husband pressured her for money and pushed her off the roof. "If you don't bring money today, I'll kill you," he allegedly told her. Despite suffering serious injuries, she was not taken to a hospital immediately. The next morning, doctors at a private hospital in Nagda declared her critical and referred her to Bombay Hospital in Indore.

Divya further alleged in her complaint that her husband doesn't let her meet their daughter, saying, "Unless you bring money from your parents, you cannot meet your daughter." "Only a mother can properly care for her child... I want my daughter back," she was quoted as saying by NDTV. The case is under investigation.
