Water levels in Indian reservoirs dip below 90%

India

India's big reservoirs are now 86.41% full, says the Central Water Commission. That's about 158.624 billion cubic meters of water left out of a possible 183.565 billion, as of early December 2025.
While this is actually better than last year and above the 10-year average, the India Meteorological Department notes that rainfall has been pretty uneven across different regions.

Some regions doing fine, others not so much

Reservoirs in western India—think Maharashtra and Gujarat—are almost topped up at 94%.
Down south, storage is at 84%, with Tamil Nadu leading at 93%.
Central and northern regions are a bit lower, while the east is lagging behind at just 79%, and Assam is especially low with less than half its capacity.
So, water availability really depends on where you are in the country right now.
