    What's the story

The Indian Army is one of the largest and best armies in the world. Many youngsters dream of joining the prestigious Army to serve their nation with pride.

However, many don't have a clue how to. There are two ways in which one can join the Indian Army as an Officer after Class 12.

Here's all you need to know about joining the Army.

    Information

The two ways to join Indian Army

Joining the Indian Army after Class 12 is one of the best and popular options among students. The two ways through which students can join the Army after 10+2 are: the National Defense Academy (NDA) route and TES (Technical Entry Scheme) Course.

    NDA-1

How to join the Army through the NDA route?

Students who have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) or those who are appearing for 10+2 can join the Indian Army through the National Defense Academy (NDA). NDA is the premier Joint Services academy of the Indian Armed Forces.

Male candidates between the ages of 16½ and 19½ years (as on the first day of the month in which the course would commence) are eligible.

    NDA-2

Candidates must clear NDA exam held by UPSC

To join the NDA, students must crack NDA Exam conducted by UPSC after which they must clear the SSB (Services Selection Board) interview.

UPSC conducts NDA Exam twice a year. Selected candidates undergo three-year joint training at the NDA in Khadakwasla near Pune. Later, Indian Army cadets are sent to Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun to receive a one-year training before granting of commission.

    TES-1

    About the Technical Entry Scheme

Also, candidates who have passed Class 12 in the Science (PCM) stream can join the Army through the Technical Entry Scheme.

Those with at least an aggregate of 70% in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry are eligible for the scheme.

Male candidates aged between 16½ and 19½ years (as on the first day of the month in which course is due to commence) can apply.

    TES-2

How are candidates selected for TES?

For the Technical Entry Scheme, candidates can submit applications through the Join Indian Army portal.

Candidates are selected based on the cutoff as decided by Recruiting Directorate. TES Entry is held twice a year after which SSB interview is conducted.

The scheme offers four-year Bachelor of Engineering in various disciplines after which candidates are granted Permanent Commission in the Army in the Lieutenant rank.
