JEE Advanced 2019: Eligibility criteria and other important details

What's the story

The National Testing Agency (NTA) concluded the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2019 for the April phase on April 12. Now, all eyes are on the next step - JEE Advanced, which will be conducted by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee. JEE Main is the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced, and naturally not everybody can sit for it. Here's the eligibility criteria.

Seats

Top 2,45,000 from JEE Main can appear for JEE Advanced

Only top 2,45,000 rank holders from the JEE Main will be eligible to sit for the JEE Advanced exam. Out of the shortlisted candidates, 46.5% seats will be for Open category, 27% for OBC-Non-Creamy Layer, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST and remaining 4% for Gen-Economically Weaker Section. Moreover, there will be a horizontal reservation within these categories for PwD candidates.

Eligibility

Candidates born on or after October 1, 1994, are eligible

According to the norms laid by for JEE Advanced, only the candidates who are born on or after October 1, 1994, are eligible. Further five years relaxation is given to the SC, ST and PwD candidates. Moreover, a candidate should have appeared for Class XII (or equivalent) examination in either 2018 or 2019 for the first time and only two consecutive attempts are allowed.

Registration

Registrations to begin from May 3 for Indian nationals

As per reports, the results for JEE Main April edition along with the final rank list will be declared by April 30. Although JEE Advanced registrations for foreign nationals are now open, for Indian nationals, it will open on May 3 and the exam will be conducted on May 27. JEE Advanced will be conducted in six countries outside India for the foreign nationals.

An announcement made on the official JEE Advanced website reads, "The examination will be held in India and abroad, on May 27, 2019 (Monday), in the following two shifts: Paper 1 (09:00 to 12:00 IST) and Paper 2 (14:00 to 17:00 IST)."
