Woman dupes retired IIT professor, seizes assets
India
An 82-year-old retired IIT professor in Mumbai was allegedly scammed by his caretaker, Nikita Naik, who he met at yoga classes back in 2017. Trusting her due to his poor eyesight, he put her in charge of his care—only for Naik to reportedly send him to an old-age home and transfer one-third of his property worth ₹6 crore into her own name.
How the son found out about the scam
The whole scheme unraveled when the professor's son visited from Pimpri and realized his father was missing. After tracking him down at an old-age home, he learned about the asset transfers and quickly filed a police complaint. A case has since been registered against Naik, and the investigation is ongoing—a reminder to stay alert when it comes to trusting others with personal care and finances.
