Woman TMC leader assaults elderly man in public
In Kharagpur, West Bengal, a 66-year-old ex-CPIM leader named Anil Das was allegedly attacked by local Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Babita Koley and two of her associates.
The incident happened after Das protested the alleged mistreatment of another elderly woman and damage to her home.
A viral video shows the three women hitting Das with their hands and slippers while several bystanders look on.
Both Das and the other victim have filed police complaints.
Political leaders react to incident
The assault has sparked strong reactions from political leaders across parties.
Former MLA Pradeep Sarkar called for strict action against those involved, while TMC's district president Sujoy Hazra condemned the "brutal" attack and said such behavior won't be tolerated in the party.
BJP leaders also criticized repeated attacks on dissenters.
Police have registered complaints from both victims and are investigating the case.
