After Rohini, 3 more Lalu Yadav daughters leave Patna residence
What's the story
The internal crisis within the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) intensified as three daughters of party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav left their Patna residence for Delhi. The departure comes after Rohini Acharya's shocking allegations against her family and its inner circles. Acharya, a doctor based in Singapore, accused two aides of her brother, Tejashwi Yadav, of abusing and humiliating her.
Family turmoil
Acharya accuses aides of abuse, humiliation
Acharya alleged she was abused and even had a slipper thrown at her during an argument with Sanjay Yadav and Rameez. She also claimed she was accused of taking money after donating a kidney to Lalu Yadav, which she found deeply insulting. The allegations have further deepened the rift in the family, which has been under strain after a poor showing in the recent Bihar Assembly elections.
Family exodus
Three sisters leave family home amid crisis
After Acharya's allegations, her three sisters, Rajlakshmi, Ragini, and Chanda, quietly left their family home in Patna, India Today reported. The departure leaves only Lalu Yadav, Rabri Devi, and Misa Bharti at the residence. Tejashwi Yadav, whose leadership and choice of advisers have come under fire since the defeat, has mostly stayed out of public view since the family's internal crisis began.
Brother's response
Tej Pratap Yadav reacts to sister's allegations
Meanwhile, Tej Pratap Yadav, who was expelled from the RJD and his family earlier this year, reacted strongly to Acharya's allegations. He said he had tolerated many attacks against himself, but the humiliation of his sister was "unbearable under any circumstances." He warned of harsh consequences for this "injustice" and appealed to Lalu Yadav for support. "Father, give me a signal, just one nod, and the people of Bihar will bury these Jaichands," he said.
Political backdrop
RJD's election defeat adds to family tensions
The RJD's recent electoral defeat has only added to the family's hard times. The party's tally fell from 75 seats to around 25 in the just-concluded Bihar Assembly elections, even though it remained the largest party in terms of vote share with around 23%. Acharya had earlier said that she left her parents "crying" and alleged she was "torn away" from her home.
