What's the story

Uttar Pradesh minister Om Prakash Rajbhar has claimed that the Samajwadi Party (SP) is on the verge of a major split. He alleged that the situation was not limited to Maharashtra and West Bengal and that "the entire SP is ready to join the BJP," according to PTI. Party president Akhilesh has reacted to the claim, simply saying, "Dana aur gana kab tak chalega yeh afsana (how long will their 'benefits' and 'songs' continue)?"

Political dynamics

Don't keep your attention only on Maharashtra: Rajbhar

Referring to possible SP leaders changing sides, Rajbhar had earlier alleged that people join political parties for their own benefits. "Only when someone is ready to be bought, people will buy them. Don't keep your attention only on Maharashtra; it is UP's number now," he said. Rajbhar also referred to a letter allegedly written by SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He said this letter raised serious political questions and sought clarification.

Allegations raised

Rajbhar refers to Ram Gopal Yadav's letter to Amit Shah

"Didn't you see that Ram Gopal ji has given a letter to Amit Shah ji and told him that these are the names, call them and take them with you, but keep us safe," he told ANI. Speaking to NDTV, he said the letter conveys that "no harm should come to them and these leaders are ready to join you." He didn't give any names, saying, "If I reveal the name right now, the whole effort will go to waste."

Corruption connection

Rajbhar links Yadav's letter to previous corruption allegations against Akhilesh

Rajbhar also linked the issue to previous corruption allegations against SP leaders. He referred to a case where the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) named Akhilesh in a mining-related case. "CBI has named Akhilesh ji in a mining-related case. Did anyone go to jail in the Gomti Riverfront case?" Rajbhar asked.

Corruption anxiety

'SP is anxious over corruption cases'

In a post on X, Rajbhar accused the SP of being anxious over corruption cases. "Everyone in Uttar Pradesh knows who the mastermind behind the mining scam and Gomti River Front scam is. As the noose tightens, the SP is getting anxious." "Forget Maharashtra and Bengal— the entire SP is sitting ready to join the BJP," he wrote, referring to the TMC split in Bengal and the similar situation unfolding with the Shiv Sena (UBT) in Maharashtra.
