    What's the story

Amit Shah is set to make his grand entry into the Rajya Sabha after the current round of polls.

Known as the architect of BJP's splendid political wins since the 2014 General Elections, Shah is a first-time Parliamentarian.

While BJP recently became the single largest party in the Rajya Sabha, party sources note that Shah's presence will be a morale booster for BJP members.

    Information

    Context: Rajya Sabha elections

Rajya Sabha elections are being conducted for three seats in Gujarat and six seats in West Bengal. As per current figures, both Amit Shah and Smriti Irani are set to win from Gujarat.

    Details

Will Shah fix the absentee problem in the Rajya Sabha?

Despite becoming the single largest party in the Rajya Sabha, BJP has been plagued by the 'absentee problem' with majority of its members not showing up.

Empty BJP chairs have been blamed for opposition's success in pushing amendments for the Motor Vehicle Act and the National Commission for Backward Classes bill.

Party sources are further hopeful that Shah's presence will remedy this problem.
