When Anandiben Patel gave election tips to BJP leaders
It is not every day that the governor of a state is caught on camera giving controversial advice to its party's leaders on how to get more votes. So when something like this surfaces, it cannot not go viral. Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel has stirred up a storm for telling BJP leaders in Satna to adopt underprivileged children for votes. Here's more.
What did Anandiben say?
"Adopt the children and see that the money being given is being utilized properly by the mother. Votes aise nahi milenge. Unke ghar pe jaake baithoge, godi me loge, tabhi vote milenge," the former Gujarat CM can be seen saying in the video. "Aap logo ko toh votes nahi chahiye, hame to chahiye. Tabhi Narendra Bhai ka 2022 ka sapna pura hoga," she adds.
Narendra Bhai ka 2022 ka sapna?
Anandiben was referring to PM Narendra Modi's lofty ambition of making a "New India" by 2022, where all would have basic civic facilities and youth/women enough opportunities to live a healthy, purposeful life. But if vote-bank politics is to drive the new India, how would it be different from the India of today? What's new then? Thanks, Anandiben. For ruining it for Modi.
Congress is angry
The Congress has threatened to take up the matter to President Kovind. Senior party leader Jyotiraditya Scindia slammed on Twitter Anandiben's brazenness: "Madhya Pradesh governor Anandiben Patel is publicly canvassing for the BJP, which is violation of constitutional norms. The governor's post has a lot of dignity attached to it. She should work accordingly and not as a BJP election campaigner," he wrote.
