Karnataka: Newly-elected Congress MLA, Nyamagouda dies in road accident
Siddu B Nyamagouda, a newly elected Congress MLA from Karnataka died on Monday after meeting a road accident. Nyamagouda was 67 years old and was returning from Goa to Bagalkot. He met with an accident near Tulasigeri, around 4:30 AM. The Jamakhandi MLA had defeated BJP's Shrikanth Subbarao Kulkarni by over 2,500 votes in the recently concluded Karnataka assembly elections.
How the accident happened
District Superintendent of Police Vamshikumar said the accident took place when Nyamagouda's car tried to avoid a lorry. The vehicle hit a roadside parapet wall, and the MLA died on the spot after suffering severe injuries. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, and two sons.

Nyamagouda was in Delhi and arrived in Goa by flight. He was among the 78 Congress MLAs elected in the elections. Reportedly, he was also a contender of a berth in the cabinet led by JD(S) leader Kumaraswamy. "Siddu Nyamagouda served as an MLA, an MP and Union Minister. My friend will be missed," tweeted former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah after his untimely death.

Nyamagouda was born on August 5, 1950, in Bijapur district's Jamakhandi. He represented Bagalkot in Lok Sabha from 1991 to 1996. He was elected to the Karnataka assembly several times. He was a Union Minister in the former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao's Centre cabinet. He was given the deputy minister, coal, position in Rao's government. May his soul rest in peace.
