Modi's speech canceled after opposition protests lead to LS adjournment
What's the story
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's expected address has been canceled after the Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day. The proceedings were disrupted by opposition members who raised slogans and protested inside the Parliament complex. PM Modi was expected to address the Lok Sabha during the ongoing Budget Session in response to the motion of thanks to the President's address at 5:00pm.
Standoff
What led to standoff
The standoff between the opposition and the government in the Lok Sabha intensified after eight opposition MPs were suspended over "unruly behavior" on Tuesday. Rahul Gandhi had tried to read out excerpts from Army chief General MM Naravane's unpublished memoir, including sections about the 2020 India-China military standoff in Ladakh, but he was not allowed, as per rules. Protesting this, Congress MPs raised slogans of 'LoP ko bolne do' while staging a protest within the Parliament complex.

'Don't think PM will have the guts to come'
Ironically, Gandhi had prophesied that PM Modi would not show up in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. "I don't think PM will have the guts to come to the Lok Sabha today because if he comes, I am going to give him this book. If the PM comes, I will go physically and hand him this book so he can read it and the country can get to know the truth," he told reporters.
