What's the story

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched a blistering attack on the Congress Party, accusing it of being the most deceitful and dishonest party in the country. Referring to the 2016 surgical strike carried out during the NDA government at a rally in Haryana's Hisar, he said, "What did the Congress do? They asked our army for proof of the surgical strike." He also slammed Sukhwinder Sukhu's government in Himachal Pradesh for failing to fulfill its election promises.

Unfulfilled promises

PM Modi accuses Congress of failing to fulfill election promises

PM Modi accused the Congress of making big promises during the election campaign but failing to deliver once in power. "You can see the condition of Himachal Pradesh in the neighborhood. They lied to the people...during elections and now after forming the government, people are asking Congress what happened to your promises," he said. He also questioned how a party that cannot bring unity among its leaders could bring stability to a state.

Internal strife

PM Modi criticizes Congress for internal conflicts

The prime minister also took a dig at the Haryana Congress for its internal conflicts, saying that the fight is on within the party to gain supremacy, rather than to show concern for the public. "People are seeing how there is an infighting in Congress...to become the Chief Minister. 'Bapu' is also a contender and so is his son," he said. He added that both of them are together engaged in eliminating others.

Neglected communities

PM Modi accuses Congress of neglecting Dalits, farmers

PM Modi further accused Congress of ignoring Dalits and farmers. "The doors of Congress are completely closed for Dalits and backwards. Congress knows that Dalits do not vote for it, that is why it hates the entire Dalit community," he said. He slammed the party for its handling of farmer issues in states where it is in power, saying "hundreds of farmers have committed suicide" after the Congress government was formed in Karnataka.
