    What's the story

Breaking his silence and coming out in favor of the #MeToo campaign, Congress President Rahul Gandhi said on Friday that it's time everyone learns to treat women with dignity.

He, further, added he was glad to see that there was no space anymore for those who don't respect women.

"The truth needs to be told in order to bring about change," he tweeted.

    Treat women with respect

It’s about time everyone learns to treat women with respect and dignity.

I’m glad the space for those who don't, is closing. The truth needs to be told loud and clear in order to bring about change. #MeToo

    Yes

It's time Rahul spoke on the movement

When Minister of State for External Affairs MJ Akbar was named by several women for sexual misconduct, Gandhi was asked about his take on the movement and on the allegations against Akbar.

Rahul then said, "MeToo is a very big issue. I will comment on it in a further press conference."

Narendra Modi led government has maintained a stoic silence on the Akbar issue.

    The storm called #MeToo

Over the last week, several women have come out and shared their stories of sexual, verbal and physical assault, and have forced the organizations to break ties with those who have been named and shamed. Notably, Akbar is the first politician to be named.
