The protest came after Shah was denied a party ticket for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. In an emotional outburst, he tore his kurta and lay on the road, crying and accusing the party of corruption in ticket distribution.

Shah alleged that he was denied a ticket after he refused to pay ₹2.7 crore for it. He accused Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav of "brokering" the ticket for cash and claimed the Madhuban seat was given to Dr Santosh Kushwaha instead. "The party has ignored honest and hardworking workers like me," he said, adding that RJD now prioritizes those with money over dedicated workers.
