'Here's...traitor walking by': Rahul Gandhi as former aide crosses path
What's the story
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and his former aide-turned-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravneet Singh Bittu exchanged sharp words on the Parliament premises on Wednesday. The incident took place before the day's proceedings began when suspended Congress MPs were staging a protest at the Makar Dwar. As Bittu tried to climb up the stairs, Gandhi was heard saying, "Here is a traitor walking right by. Look at the face."
Accusations
'Don't worry, you will come back (to Congress)'
Bittu, a three-time Congress MP, had switched to the BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections Gandhi then extended his hand toward Bittu and said, "Hello brother, my traitor friend. Don't worry, you will come back (to Congress)." Bittu, however, refused to shake hands with Gandhi and shot back at him, calling him a "desh ke dushman" (enemy of the nation). Parliament session was adjourned till 12 noon on Wednesday amid sloganeering over the suspension of eight opposition MPs.

MPs stage protest
The eight opposition MPs were suspended for the rest of the Budget session on Tuesday amid protests over Gandhi not being allowed to speak on former Army chief General (Retired) Manoj Naravane's unpublished memoir. The MPs were suspended for unruly behavior. On Wednesday, these Congress MPs held a protest while holding a poster that read 'PM is compromised' at the stairs of Parliament. The compromised claims were made by Gandhi after India and the US announced a trade deal.
