    IPS officer suspended for taking on Mulayam Singh

    Amitabh Thakur was suspended on 13 July 2015 by the UP government under the pretext of "violating service rules." The government accused the IG rank officer with anti-government activities and indiscipline. Thakur said he was not aware of the suspension orders and had been informed through media; he said he would move the court against the suspension.

    Officer accused to cover up a mining scam

    IPS officer Amitabh Thakur and his wife Nutan registered a greivance with Lokayukta in 2014 against Gayatri Prajapati, Mulayam's close aide and Mining Minister. The Thakurs accused Prajapati of running a "multi-million mining racket" and amassing hefty bribes from several districts. In May, complaints against Amitabh Thakur began surfacing; however it was discovered that the rape victims had not reached out to the police.

    FIR lodged by RTI activist on UP ministers

    A FIR against UP minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati, UP State Women Commission chairperson Zarina Usmani and UPSWC member Ashok Pandey was registered by the Lucknow police on 10 June. The police withheld this information from media till July. The FIR was registered on a complaint from social activist Nutan Thakur for trying to implicate her IPS officer husband Amitabh Thakur in bogus rape cases.

    IPS officer allegedly threatened by Samajwadi Party Supremo

    A police complaint against SP boss Mulayam Singh Yadav was lodged by Amitabh Thakur, an Inspector General of police accusing the former of threatening him "with dire consequences." He produced a 2 minute clip to support his allegations. However, deputy inspector general (Lucknow), RK Chaturvedi gave a clean chit to Yadav saying that there was no "prima facie" evidence against him.

    Rape charges against IAS officer

    On 11 July 2015, an FIR was lodged against Amitabh Thakur and his wife Nutan by the Lucknow Police. The police acted under a complaint made by a woman from Ghaziabad in 2014 wherein she had accused Thakur of raping her. Moreover, Thakur's wife was accused of helping him in the act, according to S.M. Abbas, the station officer at Gomtinagar police station.

    'Return gift' policy of the UP government

    Amitabh Thakur reacted saying "I consider this as return gift from Mulayam Singh Yadav as I dared to make his threats public. We welcome this FIR, I'm sure justice will be done".

    BJP minister lashes at Mulayam regime

    Commenting on the allegations slapped on IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, BJP National Vice President Om Mathur said that a FIR should be registered against Mulayam Singh in this 'serious' matter. Mathur further blamed the Yadav family, where everyone "considers himself as Chief Minister" for the deteriorating law and order of the state. He said that fair panchayat polls were not possible under Mulayam's regime.

    IPS officer seeks CBI probe in rape case

    Senior IPS officer Amitabh Thakur has called for a CBI probe after being accused in a rape case. Thakur was allegedly threatened by Mulayam Singh Yadav after the latter was unhappy about an FIR against the mining minister. Thakur said that he will take the issue up with the Union ministry. He said he lacked faith in the state police to investigate the case.
