What's the story
Actor-politician Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar, popularly known as Vijay, is set to meet the families of the Karur stampede victims on Monday, News18 reported, citing a source from his party. The meeting will take place in Mamallapuram, near Chennai. Vijay's party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has organized a private event at a resort for this purpose.

50 rooms booked for the meeting
Reportedly, the TVK has booked 50 rooms at the resort to facilitate a personal meeting between Vijay and the bereaved families. Speaking to reporters in Karur, a family member of one of the victims said, "They have arranged a bus for us to reach the venue. Many of us are going." However, PTI quoted sources confirming that neither media personnel nor party members will be permitted at this private event.

Controversy over 'Karur visit ban'
The meeting has sparked a debate on social media, with some criticizing Vijay for not visiting Karur himself. They argued that arranging travel and accommodation was unnecessary. However, the TVK defended its decision, stating that Vijay couldn't get permission from authorities to visit Karur directly. Perumal of Velusamypuram, who lost his minor daughters in the tragedy, said it wasn't right for the affected families to visit the leader.
