New iPhone Fold rumor reveals smaller screens, potential launch delay
What's the story
Apple's highly anticipated iPhone Fold, its first-ever foldable smartphone, is expected to come with a smaller display than previously thought. According to a research note from Japanese firm Mizuho Securities, the outer display of the upcoming device will measure 5.38-inch while the inner one will be slightly larger at 7.58-inch. These numbers are lower than earlier estimates of 5.5-inch and 7.8-inch displays, respectively, for Apple's innovative device.
Design concerns
Device to be similar to now-discontinued iPhone mini
The iPhone Fold, when folded, will be similar to the now-discontinued iPhone mini with its 5.4-inch display. But the inner display of this new model will be much larger than any previous iPhones. Mizuho Securities also raised concerns about Apple's target launch date for the device in fall 2026. The firm said Apple's prolonged design finalization process, especially for its hinge mechanism, could lead to supply shortages.
Production hurdles
Production issues could lead to delay in launch
While a 2026 launch still seems likely, Apple may not have as much supply as it initially hoped. If production runs into too many issues, however, the product could also be delayed until 2027. The iPhone Fold is expected to be a major addition to Apple's lineup in 2026. However, these new revelations about its display size and potential launch delay have raised questions about the device's final design and release date.
