EU might delay AI Act rollout to give companies breathing
The EU might hit pause on its big new AI rules after hearing concerns from European companies and facing pressure from the US.
The AI Act, which was passed last year to keep artificial intelligence safe and ethical, was supposed to bring strict rules for high-risk AI starting 2026.
Now, a one-year "grace period" is being discussed so companies can catch up without shaking up the market.
Final proposal expected on November 19
Fines for breaking transparency rules could also be pushed back until August 2027, giving businesses extra breathing room.
The final proposal is expected on November 19 and will need sign-off from both EU countries and the European Parliament before anything is official.
The Commission says it's still committed to making sure AI stays safe while listening to calls for a smoother rollout.
