What's the story

Facebook has announced a new Pinterest-like app that is designed to help you document your personal projects and hobbies using photos and videos. The company has launched this app via its New Product Experimentation (NPE) Team, an initiative that explores new ideas in the social media space and gauges user traction. Here's more on Hobbi.

About Hobbi, Facebook's new experimental platform

Hobbi lets you focus on DIY hobbies while allowing you to track your progress. It lets you save photos of the projects or activities you are working on. You can then organize these photos into visual collections to see your progress. The app also lets you share these videos with friends and family. Beyond this, there is no social networking component in the app.

Information

There is no social media integration at present

As of now, Hobbi doesn't have a social sharing angle. So, whatever you document in the app can't be directly shared on Facebook or Instagram. Hence, it is seen as an editor and organizer rather than a social media platform.

Availability

The app is currently available on iOS only

Facebook's NPE team has introduced Hobbi on just the iOS platform. Th Android users will have to wait a little longer. Moreover, the app is currently available in select regions. According to reports, if you are in the US, Columbia, Belgium, Spain, and Ukraine, you should be able to download the app.

Other apps

Previously, Facebook's NPE team has launched three other apps

Hobbi is the fourth app launched by Facebook's NPE team since its formation last July. Among the other three apps, there is Whale which allows users to create memes with easy-to-use templates and tools. Similarly, AUX is a participatory DJ app that lets you post your song request on a group playlist, while Bump is a chat app for students.
