Google News just got smarter and more personal
Google is rolling out fresh updates to Google News and its AI Mode, making it easier to find reliable info from sources you trust.
The highlights: more links with helpful context, a new "Preferred Sources" pick-your-faves feature, and smarter AI tools—all aimed at helping you discover news your way.
Pick your favorite sources and see more useful links
With the new Preferred Sources option in Top Stories, you can choose which websites you want to see first (rolling out to English users worldwide in the coming days, with more languages coming early next year).
Google says nearly 90,000 sites are included so far, and people are clicking their favorites twice as often.
Plus, AI Mode now adds extra inline links where you'd usually want to check facts—each with a quick intro explaining why that link matters.
AI-powered summaries and audio briefings on the way
Google's teaming up with publishers like The Guardian and Der Spiegel to test out AI-generated article summaries and audio news briefings—so catching up on headlines could get even quicker.
These will always show where the info comes from. Soon, the Gemini app will highlight paid news stories in their own carousel, with plans to bring this feature into other AI-powered views next year.
Real-time updates from outlets like The Associated Press are also set to make results even fresher.
