Google Play Games will now show others what you play
What's the story
Google is gearing up to revamp user profiles on its Play Games service for Android devices. The upcoming update will highlight your gaming stats and achievements, among others. The tech giant describes the changes as a "set of new capabilities for showcasing and tracking your game progress and stats, new ways to build your gaming community, and allowing you to tailor your profile to your liking."
Update timeline
Rollout schedule and availability
The update will be automatically applied, starting September 23 in most regions. However, users in the EU and UK will have to wait until October 1 for the changes to take effect. Google is also sending out emails to inform Google Play users about these updates. Once implemented, Google Play Games profiles and features shall start appearing on the Google Play Store interface itself.
Benefits
Similar to Valve's Steam service
The update is designed to make it easier for users who want to share their profile information with others. It will help them connect with other players and keep track of their gaming milestones. While the specifics of this feature are still unclear, it seems similar to how player information, gaming history, and achievements are currently displayed on Valve's Steam service.
