HAL's HTT-40 trainer aircraft takes its 1st flight

Technology

HAL's new HTT-40 aircraft just completed its very first flight at their Bengaluru facility, marking a major step forward in homegrown defense tech.
Built for basic flight training, aerobatics, and night flying, the HTT-40 is set to help train the next generation of Air Force pilots.
HAL shared the milestone on X, calling it a big moment for pilot training in India.

Engine, cockpit and other details

The HTT-40 runs on a Honeywell engine and features a modern glass cockpit with advanced Indian-made avionics—think VOR-ILS navigation and Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) systems.
It's designed so pilots can swap out quickly and refuel fast, keeping training sessions moving smoothly.
Earlier this month, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh opened a second production line for these aircraft in Nashik, praising HAL's role in pushing India's defense technology forward.
