    What's the story

In a pioneering initiative, Da Spatio Rhobotique Laboratory (DSRL), a start-up incubated at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, has developed advanced robots to keep a watch on India's borders.

The robots can conduct AI-powered surveillance and seamless real-time monitoring across difficult terrains.

The Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has already acknowledged their potential for India's defense infrastructure.

    Field trials

    Indian Army testing the robots

The Indian Army is already conducting field trials for the surveillance system developed by DSRL.

As Arnab Kumar Barman, CEO of DSRL, told PTI, this autonomous robotic system is way better than traditional security measures involving drones, stationary cameras, and manual patrolling.

It is built to tackle the challenges of terrain, weather conditions, and endurance limits.

    Tech features

They are equipped with AI-driven reconnaissance capabilities

Barman stressed that the robotic system represents a major leap for border protection, critical infrastructure surveillance, and strategic defense applications.

It comes with seamless pole traversal capabilities, adaptive obstacle navigation, and AI-driven reconnaissance.

"Our mission is to develop cutting-edge, AI-driven surveillance solutions that address the evolving challenges of national security," Barman told PTI.

    Advanced technology

The system enhances threat detection capabilities

Keyur Sorathia, Head of Technology Incubation Center at IIT Guwahati, emphasized the strategic advancement this innovation marks in India's commitment to bolstering national security with indigenous, high-tech solutions.

The AI-driven robotic surveillance system greatly improves threat detection and deterrence capabilities with multi-sensor intelligence gathering.

"With the Indian Army actively conducting field trials, the surveillance system is advancing toward large-scale deployment in sensitive areas and military stations," he told PTI.

    National security

The robots aim to counter modern security threats

The indigenous robots will strengthen national security by countering modern threats like rogue drones and infiltration attempts.

This breakthrough marks a critical step in strengthening the nation's borders with homegrown innovation.

"We are proud to contribute to India's vision of self-reliance in defense technology and are committed to further innovations that strengthen our national security," Barman added.
