Indian-origin YouTuber builds world's largest iPhone, bags Guinness World Record
Indian-origin British YouTuber Arun Rupesh Maini, popularly known as Mrwhosetheboss, has set a new Guinness World Record by creating the world's largest working replica of an iPhone. The colossal model is a 6.74-foot tall version of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Maini collaborated with Matthew Perks (DIYPerks) to create this fully functional giant iPhone, that features an 88-inch OLED display and can perform tasks like sending texts and emails, running apps, and taking photos.
Maini's journey to Guinness World Record
Maini expressed his excitement about the achievement to Guinness World Records, stating that it feels "absolutely surreal" to receive an award from an organization he admired since childhood. He also praised his team and collaborator Perks for their efforts in realizing this unprecedented project. The construction process involved repurposing a large OLED TV into a touch-sensitive display, and crafting a sturdy aluminum frame to accommodate various phone components.
The tech behind the world's largest iPhone
Despite Apple's proprietary iOS, Maini and Perks managed to create a functional experience using Android with a custom skin that mimics the iPhone interface. This allowed them to install apps like Flappy Bird, which has been unavailable on actual iPhones for nearly a decade. The device is powered by a 24-core Intel Core i9 processor, supported by 128GB of RAM and an AMD 6950 XT dedicated graphics card.
Unique camera system and public response
The phone's camera employs a unique movable mirror-based system that provides 7x zoom. Since its debut, the video showcasing the creation has amassed over 2.5 million views and is trending on YouTube. Viewers have lauded Maini's meticulous craftsmanship and innovative approach in their comments, with one stating, "Arun did much more than just connect a phone to a bigger screen. His attention to detail won the Guinness Record."
