Soon, you'll get a TikTok like tool for Instagram Stories

    What's the story

The virality of TikTok - and its recent expansion into education - has shaken the entire video-sharing space.

Players like Instagram and Snapchat see the Chinese platform as a major competitor and are upgrading their products to lure new users and keep the existing ones engaged.

Now, as part of the same effort, Instagram is developing a video editing/remixing tool for Stories.

    Here's more.

    Feature

'Scenes' to merge videos, add music, and more

Instagram's ephemeral Stories have long kept users of the platform engaged.

It gives a way to share precious moments from day-to-day life, be it a photo/video or even a song that you may like (complete with lyrics/music).

To build on this offering, the platform is now working on Scenes, a feature that would let you merge short-videos and add/play music while recording them.

    Details

Like TikTok, you can do a lot with Scenes

Scenes would work a lot like TikTok, giving you the ability to edit videos and enhance them with "speed changes, timers, AR Effects," and more.

Notably, if your profile is public, your Scenes would also be visible in the 'Explore' section of the app. This would let more people engage with your content and follow you.

    Roll out

As of now, the feature is not officially confirmed

While the feature looks tempting, it's worth noting that there is no word on when or if Instagram will roll it out.

As of now, it's just a test feature, which has been unearthed by Jane Manchun Wong, a software engineer with a perfect track record for digging new and upcoming features from the code of apps.

    Twitter Post

    Here's what Wong tweeted

ICYMI: Instagram is spotted working on this feature on September 2019. It was called "Clips" back thenhttps://t.co/RA3hzHDvkQ

    Mixture

Instagram to be a mix of many things

If Instagram eventually goes ahead and launches this feature, the service would become a mix of many things.

Essentially, it would be a single app offering viral capabilities from different apps.

This includes AR-enhanced photos/video Stories like Snapchat, Music and Video Editing features like TikTok, and the regular shopping and social features it is already known for.
