Kenya investigates Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses over privacy concerns

Kenya is investigating Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses after reports that they can record people without their consent.
Swedish media reported that images, including private moments, are collected from around the world and sent to Nairobi, where workers review them to train the AI in these glasses.
This has sparked real concerns about how personal data is being handled.
ODPC probe follows oversight lab request
A digital rights group, The Oversight Lab, asked Kenya's data protection office (ODPC) to step in, leading to an official investigation in March 2026.
The ODPC says updates will follow once it finishes digging into the issue.
Meanwhile, Meta faces similar privacy questions in the US and UK so what Kenya decides could shape how these kinds of tech are regulated everywhere.
