Meta scales back PG-13 mentions after Motion Picture Association dispute
Technology
Meta is changing how it uses the PG-13 label on teen accounts after a dispute with the Motion Picture Association (MPA).
The MPA worried parents might confuse Meta's content filters with official movie ratings, so Meta will now cut back on PG-13 mentions and add a note making it clear the MPA isn't involved.
Instagram proposed PG-13 filter for teens
The issue started when Instagram wanted to use PG-13 as a guide for filtering content for users under 18.
After getting a legal warning from the MPA, Meta decided to update its messaging to avoid confusion.
Its actual teen safety policies aren't changing (just how it talks about them) to help parents understand what's what.
