Xiaomi India teases new tablet, could be Mi Pad 5
Xiaomi is gearing up to launch a new product in India on April 1, according to an official teaser. Going by the teaser's title, "Let's Tab," we expect the Chinese tech giant to introduce a new tablet in the country. As per the reports, Xiaomi is likely to announce its Mi Pad 5 model which was first launched in China last year.
- While Xiaomi has cemented its place in the smartphone and wearable segments, it currently has no tablets on offer in the Indian market.
- The company tested its luck with the Mi Pad several years ago but didn't receive good response. However, due to the pandemic, there is a growing demand for tablets, especially budget devices for students. Xiaomi aims to tap into this market.
The Mi Pad 5 had a modern and sleek design with a rectangular screen, proportional bezels, top-center front camera, and TUV Rheinland's low blue light certification. On the rear, it sports a single snapper. It has an 11.0-inch QHD+ (1600x2560 pixels) LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 16:10 aspect ratio, a 240Hz touch sampling rate, and 500-nits of peak brightness.
The Mi Pad 5 sports a single 13MP (f/2.0) camera on the rear side. On the front, it has an 8MP (f/2.0) selfie snapper. The rear and front cameras support 4K and 1080p videos at 30fps, respectively.
The Mi Pad 5 is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 860 processor, paired with 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. It boots Android 11-based MIUI 12.5 and draws fuel from an 8,720mAh battery which supports 33W fast-charging. Connectivity options on the tablet include 5G, Bluetooth 5.0, dual-band Wi-Fi, GPS, and a Type-C port.
The Mi Pad 5 commands a price-tag of CNY 1,999 (nearly Rs. 23,000) for the 6GB/128GB model and CNY 2,299 (roughly Rs. 26,400) for the 6GB/256GB configuration. The tablet is offered in Pearl White and Cosmic Gray color options.
