Russia ready to transfer technology for Su-57 jet to India
What's the story
Russia has offered to transfer the technology of its fifth-generation Su-57 stealth fighter aircraft to India. The offer was made by Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Rostec, a Russian government-owned defense conglomerate. He said there would be no restrictions on India's demands for military equipment at the Dubai Air Show 2025.
Strategic partnership
Russia's commitment to India's security
Chemezov recalled the long-standing partnership between India and Russia, even during times when India was under sanctions. He said, "India and Russia have been partners for many years. Even when India was under sanctions, we supplied the country with weapons to ensure its security." The Rostec CEO also assured that Russia is ready to meet any new requirements from New Delhi.
Technical cooperation
Russia's defense industry responds to India's needs
Vadim Badekha, Director General of United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), a Rostec subsidiary, said concerns and technical demands related to the Su-57 are "completely acceptable." He said they are in touch with Indian officials for this purpose. A senior official from Russia's state arms exporter Rosoboronexport also detailed Russia's offer to India, including licensed production of air weapons for future generation aircraft and integration of Indian weapons.
Local production
Offer includes technology transfer and local production
The Rosoboronexport official said that the offer for the Su-57 is for jets produced in India, with a gradual shift to local production. This includes "technology transfer and technological learning of few generation technologies, including engines, optics, AESA radar, AI elements, low signature technologies and modern air weapons." The proposal also includes joint development of a two-seat version of the aircraft.
Upgrade potential
Russia's offer ensures long-term upgrades
The Russian official said the proposal ensures "a gradual increase in the level of license production" and provides long-term upgrade potential through improvements in software and other systems. He stressed that this offer is an extension of a defense partnership that has lasted over six decades. The Rosoboronexport representative emphasized "the reliability and transparency of the Russian side to technology transfer without restrictions."
