Switching your eSIM from iPhone to Galaxy is becoming easier
What's the story
Samsung is working on a new feature for its One UI 8.5 update, which will make transferring eSIMs from an iPhone to a Galaxy smartphone much easier. The move comes as part of the tech giant's efforts to simplify the process of switching between devices. Currently, moving an eSIM from an iPhone to a Samsung phone requires contacting your carrier in the US.
Feature details
Direct eSIM transfer from iPhone to Samsung phone
The upcoming One UI 8.5 update will reportedly allow users to transfer their eSIMs directly from an iPhone to a Samsung phone, without the need for carrier involvement. The feature was first spotted by Android Authority in a leaked build of the software. The "Transfer SIM from another device" option in the setup process will be split into two choices: Transfer SIM from Galaxy/Android and Transfer SIM from iPhone.
Carrier support
Support for major US carriers expected
The existing iOS-to-Pixel eSIM transfer tool works with three major US carriers: Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. It is expected that Samsung's version of the feature will support these same networks at launch. This could make the transition from an iPhone to a Samsung phone much smoother for users in the United States.
Beta launch
One UI 8.5 to bring other notable features
Samsung has not yet started beta testing for One UI 8.5, but the update is already being touted as a major one for Galaxy devices. The company is expected to start the beta program next month, with a stable rollout likely coinciding with the launch of its next flagship series, Galaxy S26. The upcoming firmware could also bring features like automatic call screening and AI-generated notification summaries.
