Tesla recalls 10,000 Powerwall batteries over fire risk

Technology

Tesla is recalling over 10,000 Powerwall 2 home batteries in the US after reports of overheating, smoke, and even fires.
The recall, announced November 13, comes after similar issues popped up in Australia.
Between late 2020 and the end of 2022, five US units caught fire while others overheated or smoked, according to safety officials.

What to do if you have an affected battery

If you have a Powerwall 2 at home, the CSPC recommends making sure your battery is online and checking the Tesla app for updates.
Tesla says it will safely discharge affected batteries and swap them out for new ones.
While Australia's recall involved a third-party supplier, Tesla hasn't named who made the cells for these US units yet.
