#GamingBytes: NVIDIA's RTX 2000 graphic cards will change gaming forever
    Credits

NVIDIA announced its new RTX 2000 high-end graphic cards at the pre-Gamescom live-stream. The graphics cards announced were GeForce RTX 2070, RTX 2080 and 2080 Ti. They replaced the current top of the line GTX 1070, 1080 and 1080 Ti. Surprisingly, NVIDIA is launching the titanium version, at the same time, for the 2080 series. Read to find out how this would change gaming.

Steep price for high-end graphic cards

The graphics cards 2080, and 2080 Ti are expected to ship around September 20 and are priced at $799 and $1,199 respectively. The RTX 2070 does not have an estimated shipping date and is priced at $599.

What is RTX and why is it the future?

NVIDIA announced that the new graphics cards would be 6x more powerful than the older ones. The new cards are based on Turing architecture and the RTX technology will allow real-time ray tracing. Notably, graphics experts have been working on this technology since the 1970s. The rendering and lighting technique will add a photo realistic aspect, which is the holy grail of gaming.

The architecture that makes it possible

The Turing architecture will form the base of NVIDIA's future graphics cards. Jensen Huang, CEO, called this is the greatest inventive leap since 2006. The cores in Turing accelerate ray-tracing, and Tensor cores allow artificial intelligence referencing. Together they make real-time ray tracing possible.

Take it for a spin- RTX and games

Ray tracing has long been used for visual effects in films. It looked just as great in games. EA DICE, the developer of Battlefield 5, integrated RTX into the game. The effects were amazing. The explosions and muzzle flashes in-game look real when reflected on water or shiny metal surfaces. Most notable is the close-up shot of the eye where an explosion is reflected.

The apt naming of the new Tomb Raider

The apt naming of the new Tomb Raider

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is an apt name, thanks to RTX. Developers Eidos Montreal and Crystal Dynamics used the RTX to render realistic shadows. Some of the characteristics that rendered the game beautiful were the high-quality anti-aliasing, high dynamic range lighting, and the shadow fall off. Notably, the shadows are much smoother and move realistically. The future of gaming has arrived!

Future of gaming has RTX ingrained

Other games that will support RTX are- Assetto Corsa Competizione, Atomic Heart, Control, Enlisted, Justice, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, Metro Exodus, and ProjectDH. Deep learning super-sampling (DLSS) allows smoother rendered objects in-game and is part of RTX. Games using DLSS will include titles like Hitman 2.
