UC Browser launches latest version in India; crosses 130mn users

Chinese tech giant Alibaba-owned UCWeb has announced a new version of its UC Browser in India, called UC Browser 12.0. In addition, the company has also announced that as of January 2018, UC Browser has crossed around 130 million monthly active users (MAU) in the country, gaining steady popularity. New version buffers videos with zero lag, consumes less data

The latest version not only lets users watch videos with zero buffer lag, but also consumes about 50% less data. It has added Smart Weather and Smart Zodiac Signs features for a more personalized experience, and users can make use of the new automatic switch definition and video preview features as well. UC Browser 12.0 will optimize video loading and downloading for lower-end phones.

UC Browser is the sixth-most downloaded app in India

As far as content consumption goes, UC Browser has witnessed a 50% growth in the page views of its news feed between the 2nd and 4th financial quarter last year. According to a report from analytics service StatCounter, the browser currently has a market share of over 43%. It has also reportedly become the sixth-most downloaded app in India.
