Watch Europe's Ariane 6 rocket launch Sentinel-1D satellite
On November 4, 2025, Europe's Ariane 6 rocket launched the Sentinel-1D satellite from French Guiana, with the event streamed live.
This mission is part of the Copernicus program, which helps scientists track what's happening on our planet in near real time.
How Sentinel-1 satellites help us
Sentinel-1D is the newest member of Europe's radar satellite family, taking over from the aging Sentinel-1A.
Its advanced radar can snap sharp images day or night and through clouds—useful for watching sea ice, oil spills, glaciers, and shipping traffic.
Working together with its twin Sentinel-1C on opposite sides of Earth, it covers every spot on the globe at least once every six days.
Importance of the mission
This was only Ariane 6's fourth flight and one of five European orbital launches this year.
These missions help Europe stay independent in space tech and keep improving how we watch over our planet from above.
