What's the story

Sony is all set to release the latest iteration of its popular console, PlayStation. Recently, its release date window, game availability, and specifications were leaked. There are some rumors about the expected price as well. Although the official name hasn't been released yet, let's assume it will be called the PS5. Here's all you need to know about the leak.

Source

The information comes from a small European third-party developer

The info is still not substantiated so take it with a grain of salt. According to the leaks (anonymously posted on Pastebin), PS5 could retail for around $499 (close to Rs. 35,000) and could be available from either March 2020 or November 2020. This price, although higher than the PS4's is still justified owing to its immense success all over the world.

Information

The PlayStation 4 sales figures tell its success story

As of December 2018, Sony has sold over 91.6 million PlayStation 4 consoles worldwide. In 2018 alone, PlayStation 4 sold 17.7 million units which are almost double the Xbox One's numbers. The only console that comes a little close to it is Nintendo Switch.

Games

Here are the games that might release with the console

The post also talks about the games that might launch with the console. These include Gran Turismo 7, a remastered PUBG (free-to-play with PS+), and Battlefield Bad Company 3. Other probable games include The Last of Us: Part II remaster, Ghost of Tsushima remaster, Harry Potter, and Assassin's Creed. Horizon Zero Dawn 2 and GTA 6 might be limited-time (one month) PS5 exclusives.

Accessories

And then there's the possibility of PlayStation VR 2

The upcoming console might have a 2TB built-in hard drive and support up to 8K resolution. A new DualShock 5 with an inbuilt camera and an upgraded PS VR headset may launch as well. The new VR headset might have improved resolution, eye tracking, better battery life, wireless capabilities, integrated headphones, and more and might retail for a price of $250 (approx. Rs. 17,350).

Future Competition

The PS5 might face some stiff competition in the future

We cannot predict what the future holds for the upcoming Sony console but one thing is certain- it is going to face some stiff competition. Microsoft is all set to unveil the next Xbox and other console makers will follow suit. The biggest threat, however, will be in the form of streaming services like Google Stadia and Nvidia's Geforce Now.

Information

What is Google Stadia?

Stadia is Google's cloud-based game-streaming platform that streams games from a remote data center to almost any device. Since all graphics processing is handled by Google, one can play any game, anywhere as long as they have a screen, strong Internet connection, and controllers.
