Sony (Sony Group Corporation) is a Japanese multinational conglomerate with its headquarters located in Minato, Tokyo. Formerly known as Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo, Sony was founded in 1946 by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita. It built Japan’s first tape recorder, called the Type-G. In 1958, the company was named ‘Sony’ which means the 'root of sonic and sound’ in Latin. Currently, Sony’s portfolio ranges from consumer technology – producing smartphones, TVs, video games, gaming consoles, and image sensors – to entertainment, music production, financial holdings, and many others.
