    What's the story

Back in August, Xiaomi-backed Black Shark launched its first flagship gaming smartphone called the Black Shark in China.

And now, the company's global website has gone live, teasing the phone with phrases like 'Sharks Approaching' and 'Unleashing Soon'.

This suggests the company could soon launch the Black Shark phone in key international markets including Europe and India.

    Here's more about Black Shark.

    Design

    Black Shark: At a glance

In terms of design, Xiaomi Black Shark comes with rounded corners and has matte-finished curved panels on the rear side which allow for a comfortable grip.

Much like the Razer phone, Black Shark features green and black colored design aesthetics and the green Shark logo lights up and breathes when you play games.

The phone measures 9.25mm in thickness and weighs 190 grams.

    For gaming pleasure

Super bright Full-HD+ display and Surround sound

The Xiaomi Black Shark gaming smartphone features a 5.99-inch full-HD+ (1080x2160 pixels) display with brightness up to 550 nits and an 18:9 aspect ratio.

Moreover, the smartphone supports DCI-P3 Wide color gamut that goes up to 97 percent to offer accurate graphic color rendering.

In terms of audio, the phone offers Surround sound for an enhanced gaming experience.

    Information

For photographer turned gamer or vice-versa

While the phone is a dedicated gaming machine, it comes with a dual-rear camera setup, sporting a 20-megapixel sensor and a 12-megapixel sensor, both with f/1.75 aperture and LED flash. For selfies, you get a 20-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture.

    Under the hood

Top of the line specs for superior power and performance

The Xiaomi Black Shark is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, coupled with Adreno 630 GPU and 6GB or 8GB RAM variants.

In terms of onboard storage, the phone comes in two variants - 64GB and 128GB.

Moreover, the phone packs a massive 4,000mAh battery which supports Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 technology.

Out-of-the-box, the smartphone runs Android 8.0 Oreo-based Joy UI.

    Information

Xiaomi Black Shark comes with a dedicated gamepad as well

Xiaomi is also offering a controller dock for the Black Shark. It's essentially an analog controller that can be attached to the phone. The controller, priced at CNY 179 ( roughly Rs. 1,900), features a joystick and trigger buttons at the top which are customizable.

    Coming soon?

    Black Shark: Pricing and Availability

In China, the phone was launched at a starting price of CNY 2,999 (roughly Rs. 31,100) for the 6GB RAM/64GB variant and CNY 3,499 (roughly Rs. 36,300) for the 8GB/128GB variant.

Notably, the phone comes in two colors - Polar Night and Sky Grey.

In India, we can expect Black Shark to launch at a price point of around Rs. 35,000

    From the grapevine

Reportedly, there's a Black Shark 2 in the works

Reportedly, Black Shark 2 - the successor to Black Shark was recently spotted on Chinese mobile certification site TENNA.

Hence, the 'Sharks Approaching' and 'Unleashing Soon' references could also be for the second iteration of Black Shark.

Further, as for its specs, they would be identical to its predecessor but may come with a dedicated cooling system and some design changes.
