Xiaomi might launch Redmi 5 in India on Valentine's Day

Xiaomi India has sent out official media invites for a launch event on February 14, 2018. It is expected that the Chinese phone maker will launch its Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones in the country. Xiaomi might also announce the Redmi Note 5 at the launch event. Here is more on the much-awaited announcement.

Redmi 5 to be priced under Rs. 10,000: Reports

In December 2017, Xiaomi had launched Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in China. Both the smartphones not only sport 18:9 bezel-less displays, but Redmi 5 will also reportedly be priced under Rs. 10,000. Reports also suggest that Redmi 5 Plus, powered by the Snapdragon 625 processor, might not be launched altogether since Xiaomi is already selling three smartphones with that chipset configuration in the country.

Redmi 5 Plus might be launched as Redmi Note 5

As for Redmi Note 5, speculations suggest that either it won't come out until the second quarter of this year or the Redmi 5 Plus smartphone will be launched at the event with the name of Redmi Note 5 along with some upgraded specifications.

Major features and specifications of Redmi 5, Redmi 5 plus

Redmi 5 features a 5.7-inch display, 12MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, and 3,300mAh battery. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor and runs the Android 7.0 OS. It comes in three storage options of 2GB/16GB, 3GB/32GB, and 4GB/32GB. Whereas, Redmi 5 Plus features a 5.9-inch display, 5000mAh battery, and 64GB storage option. It is powered by a Snapdragon 625 chipset.

This is the first major Xiaomi product launch of 2018

It is unusual for Xiaomi to wait this long into the year to announce a flagship product launch. In 2016, the company had kick-started the year with the launch of its Redmi Note 3 smartphone, while in 2017 it had launched the Redmi Note 4.
